EXQUISITE CORPSE

MUSIC THRIVING ON THE UNEXPECTED

EXQUISITE CORPSE is an ensemble of musicians and creators who thrive on the unexpected. It takes its name from the surrealist parlor game cadavre exquis, in which a sheet of paper is folded and passed around, each artist adding words or images without seeing the others, until the paper is unfolded to reveal a fantastic, unexpected whole stitched together from many imaginations at once.

Inspired by this spirit of chance and collaboration, the ensemble is dedicated to music that resists easy categorization. Its projects reimagine works of the past, reviving forgotten voices, reframing classics, and bringing history vividly back to life. At its heart is the belief that music and art serve as a link between the living and the dead, the past, the present, and the future. The ensemble fosters new collisions amongst composers, performers, and creators across disciplines with each collaboration functioning as a kind of living laboratory, where play and reinvention are central, and where no two outcomes are alike.

Founded by Emi Ferguson as a natural outgrowth of her genre-defying projects with Arezzo Music, Exquisite Corpse is a meeting ground for artists who embrace the unexpected, weaving together fragments of the past and present to create music that is alive, in transformation, and greater than the sum of its parts.
